Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has criticised ‘negative’ statement by Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis regarding national team’s preparation for limited-overs series against England.

Pakistan’s bowling coach Waqar Younis, while talking in a virtual press conference on Monday, had lamented the lack of ‘ideal’ preparations due to rain.  The 49-year-old believed that more time on the ground could have proved beneficial for the players and the team.

“Waqar bhai didn’t talk positively about team’s preparation. Regardless of the conditions and situation, you have to prepare yourself. Management should talk positively,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel.

“Our team recently played PSL and toured South Africa and Zimbabwe earlier as well. We are playing cricket regularly, so I don’t know why he said they haven’t gotten ideal preparation. You have to prepare yourself as a professional. It is the responsibility of the management to prepare the team,” he added.

The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and England which is also part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League will commence from Cardiff on 8 July.
