The incident occurred on the backdrop of a Karachi Kings victory in their first match against the Peshawar Zalmi franchise. The Kings won by 10 runs to start their Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) 5 campaign.

It must be noted that use of any sort of communication devices during the match and in the dugout area is not permitted by the ICC, unless prior permission is sought.

After the match, the Kings’ Media Manager Faisal Mirza said that Tariq Wasi, who was later identified as the one using the mobile phone, was the team’s manager. However, according to the team sheet issued at the toss, Navaid Rasheed was named as the side’s manager.
