Key overseas players exit IPL 2025 amid international commitments

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc and England’s Jos Buttler will not complete the remainder of IPL 2025, as international cricket commitments force multiple overseas withdrawals.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has resumed after the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, but it will do so without some of its biggest international names.

Mitchell Starc, representing Delhi Capitals, has reportedly opted out of the remainder of the season, while England’s Jos Buttler is set to depart before the playoffs.

Australian media reports that the 35-year-old fast bowler has informed the Capitals of his unavailability as he focuses on preparations for Australia’s ICC World Test Championship final against South Africa on June 11 at Lord’s.

While Australia’s Pat Cummins and Travis Head are expected to return, others remain uncertain.

England’s Buttler, currently with Rajasthan Royals, will exit after the group stage and will be replaced by Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis to prepare for England’s ODI series against the West Indies.

The BBC also reports that England all-rounders Jacob Bethell (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) will likely leave the tournament early.
