Khushdil Shah reacted to taunts from some spectators in the crowd
Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah was involved in a confrontation with fans following his team’s 3-0 loss to New Zealand in the ODI series. The incident occurred after Pakistan's defeat by 43 runs in the third ODI on Saturday, completing the clean sweep for the Kiwis.
Pakistan was set a target of 265 runs in the rain-shortened 42-over match. Babar Azam was the top scorer for Pakistan, making 50 runs off 58 balls. However, Pakistan was bowled out for 221 in just 40 overs. New Zealand's Ben Sears was the standout bowler, claiming 5 wickets for 34 runs in 9 overs, playing a crucial role in Pakistan’s downfall.
Following the defeat, Khushdil Shah reacted to taunts from some spectators in the crowd. Visuals from the incident showed Khushdil attempting to confront the fans before security intervened to separate the parties. The altercation was captured on video and widely shared on social media.
The loss in the final ODI secured a 3-0 whitewash for New Zealand in the series, following a 4-1 defeat for Pakistan in the preceding T20I series. Michael Bracewell was named Player of the Match for his 59 runs, which helped guide New Zealand to victory.
This incident comes shortly after Khushdil Shah was fined 50% of his match fee for a Level 2 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch on March 16. He was also handed three demerit points for the offence, marking his first violation in a 24-month period.
Khushdil had been found guilty of breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match).” The breach occurred during the eighth over of Pakistan’s innings in the first T20I, when Khushdil forcefully barged into New Zealand pacer Zakary Foulkes.
