Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been released by the MI Cape Town franchise ahead of the third season of South Africa’s premier T20 league, SA20.

The franchise announced Pollard’s departure through a post on their social media handle, citing a scheduling conflict with the International League T20 (ILT20) as the reason.

Pollard who has been a significant figure in MI Cape Town’s lineup, led the team in the most recent season. Despite the star-studded roster, MI Cape Town struggled in their first two seasons, finishing at the bottom of the table on both occasions.

With Pollard’s release, the team is expected to make strategic changes in preparation for the upcoming season.

The former all-rounder is among the retained players for MI Emirates in the ILT20 2025 season, which is set to take place from January 11 to February 9, 2025, in the UAE.

The SA20 2025 season overlaps with these dates, running from January 9 to February 8, 2025, leading to Pollard’s decision to prioritize his commitments with MI Emirates.
