Franchises from cricket’s five leading nations are gearing up to compete for a $1 million prize as the new Global Super League (GSL) launches next month in Guyana, showcasing the continued rise of T20 cricket.
The tournament, featuring five prominent teams, is scheduled to take place from Nov. 26 to Dec. 6 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, with all 11 matches set to be played under floodlights.
Among the participants is Hampshire Hawks, a three-time Vitality Blast champion, alongside other renowned teams such as Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side Guyana Amazon Warriors, Bangladesh's Rangpur Riders, Australia's Victoria, and two-time Pakistan Super League winning team Lahore Qalandars.
Former West Indies captain and GSL chairman Clive Lloyd expressed excitement over the upcoming event, stating, "We are looking forward to welcoming the teams to our beautiful country where we are sure the action on the field will be fantastic."
"These are five well known cricketing entities and we know that their fans from around the world will be tuning in to see them compete for the inaugural GSL title."
The T20 landscape continues to be dominated by the Indian Premier League (IPL), which has set a high standard, particularly with the Indian board’s policy restricting its players from joining other leagues.
With the rise of other high-profile T20 leagues in South Africa and the UAE, the GSL will face stiff competition but promises to bring more exciting international T20 action to the global stage.
