The fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has reached an exciting stage as the league phase concluded on Tuesday. The Dambulla Sixers' victory over the Colombo Strikers marked the end of the league phase, with four teams moving on to the playoffs.
In this year's five-team tournament, each team played against the others in a double round-robin format. The top four teams from the league phase have earned their spots in the playoffs, where they will compete in four additional matches to determine the champion.
In the playoff format, the top two teams will face each other in Qualifier 1. The winner of this match will go straight to the final. The loser will have another chance to make it to the final by playing in Qualifier 2 against the winner of the Eliminator, which is contested between the 3rd and 4th placed teams.
The teams advancing to the playoffs are Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, Colombo Strikers, and Kandy Falcons. While the Marvels, Kings, and Strikers secured their spots early, the Falcons clinched their place after the Dambulla Sixers were unable to overtake them in their final match.
The Lanka Premier League 2024 playoffs will take place from July 18 to 21 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, with all four matches scheduled to be held at this venue.
