Pakistan's leg-spinner Usman Qadir, who recently showcased his skills for the Dolphins in the Champions One-Day Cup, has announced his retirement from “Pakistan cricket.” The announcement was made through a heartfelt post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Reflecting on his career, Qadir expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent his country.

“Today, I am announcing my retirement from Pakistan cricket, and as I reflect on this incredible journey, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude,” Usman stated

The 31-year-old cricketer, who last donned the national jersey in 2022, emphasized the honor he felt throughout his career: “It has been an immense honor to represent my country, and I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way.”

Qadir’s journey in cricket has been filled with memorable moments, both triumphant and challenging.

“From unforgettable victories to the challenges we faced together, each moment has shaped my career and enriched my life. I’m deeply appreciative of the passionate fans who have always stood by me; your unwavering support has meant the world,” the cricketer further wrote.

As he steps away from international cricket, Qadir is determined to continue his late father Abdul Qadir's legacy, a legendary leg-spinner himself.

“As I step into this new chapter, I will be continuing my dad’s legacy, embracing both my love for cricket and the lessons he instilled in me. I carry with me the spirit of Pakistan cricket and the cherished memories we created together. Thank you for everything.”

Throughout his career, Usman Qadir played 25 T20 Internationals and earned a single One Day International cap, claiming a total of 29 wickets with an economy rate of 7.95 as a leg-spinner.

In recent interviews, Qadir voiced frustrations regarding his exclusion from the national team, particularly targeting former PCB technical director Mohammad Hafeez. In May 2024, he alleged that Hafeez's influence played a role in his absence from the squad.

Qadir revealed that former T20 captain Shaheen Afridi had assured him of selection for the New Zealand series in January, based on his performances in domestic cricket, only to be let down by Hafeez’s advocacy against his inclusion.
