The inaugural edition of Pakistan's highly anticipated Champions One-Day Cup 2024 is set to commence on September 12 in Faisalabad, with excitement building as players ramp up their preparations.
Five teams—Dolphins, Wolves, Panthers, Stallions, and Lions—will compete in a series of action-packed matches.
Notable leadership roles include Saud Shakeel leading the Dolphins, mentored by Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Shaheen Shah Afridi captaining the Lions, with guidance from Waqar Younis. Mohammad Haris will lead the Stallions under the mentorship of Shoaib Malik, while Mohammad Rizwan leads the Wolves, coached by Misbah-ul-Haq. The Panthers will be captained by Shadab Khan, mentored by Saqlain Mushtaq.
The tournament will take place from October 12-29 at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium. However, several key players will be unavailable due to various commitments or personal reasons:
Mohammad Abbas is currently engaged with county cricket, while Azam Khan, Mohammad Amir, and Imad Wasim are participating in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Additionally, Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Ilyas, and Umar Akmal have all opted out due to personal reasons.
Several players are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as they recover from injuries. Among them are Arshad Iqbal, Hassan Ali, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Ahsan Ali, Athar Mahmood, Rizwan Hussain, and Zeeshan Zameer.
Several players have recently failed their fitness tests, affecting their eligibility for upcoming selections. Among those who did not meet the required standards are Ali Shafique, Ali Zaryab, Arif Yaqoob, Danish Aziz, Mohammad Rameez Jr., Saad Baig, Rameez Aziz, Sharjeel Khan, and Shawaiz Irfan.
