South Africa have beaten Sri Lanka in a last-over thriller with David Miller and Kagiso Rabada chasing 15 runs on the last six balls.

The Proteas chased down the 143-target in the last over with four wickets in hand and a ball to spare.

Earlier, Quinton de Kock returned to the South African side after being left out for his refusal to take a knee to support the anti-racism movement. On the other hand, Sri Lanka felt confident and fielded the same side as they did in their previous match.

South Africa won the toss and elected to field first, a trend we have seen due to the dew-factor creeping in during the second innings.

Anrich Nortje provided the first breakthrough as he dismissed Kusal Perera in the fourth over of the innings for seven.

Charith Asalanka and Pathum Nissanka combined together to see off the Powerplay but could not hold off to the Proteas' bowling pressure. After being cramped for boundaries, Asalanka opted to take a close double which saw him run out for 21.

Nissanka continued his charge from the other end but Sri Lanka kept losing wickets as Tabraiz Shamsi took three wickets in his four overs, leaking only 17 runs.

Dwaine Pretorius also picked up three wickets each whereas Anrich Nortje picked up two wickets.

In return, South Africa made a cautious start but Dushmantha Chameera made the early breakthroughs and sent back both the Proteas openers in the fourth over.

Rassie van der Dussen was run out by Shanaka, which shifted the pressure back onto the Proteas batsmen. However, skipper Temba Bavuma's run-a-ball 46 helped the team get close to the target before being dismissed by Hasaranga de Silva.

Hasaranga, who came off his previous spell with the wicket of Aiden Markram (19 off 20), dismissed Bavuma and then Pretorius to claim a hattrick. However, his efforts were all in vain as David Miller and Kagiso Rabada took charge.

South Africa needed 25 from the last two overs as Miller (23*) and Rabada (13*)  combined together to guide their team to a crucial victory.
