Malan slams ton, breaks Imam’s ODI record

Dawid Malan bludgeoned 140 as defending champions England piled up 364-9 in their second World Cup match against Bangladesh in Dharamsala on Tuesday.

In-form Malan belted five sixes and 16 fours in his career-best one-day international score and Joe Root made 82, becoming England's all-time top-scorer at World Cups.

Malan cruised to his fifty off 39 balls, whereas he brought up a stylish century in the 32nd over, reaching the landmark off 91 balls. In the process, Malan became the fastest player to score six One Day Internationals (ODI) tons.

Remarkably, he accomplished this feat in just 23 innings, surpassing the previous record held by Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq, who achieved it in 27 innings.

Following Imam, Sri Lanka's Upul Tharanga stands third with 29 innings, while Pakistan's Babar Azam and South Africa's Hashim Amla occupy the fourth and fifth positions with 32 and 34 innings, respectively.

Bangladesh finally got a breakthrough they desperately needed when off-spinner Mahedi Hasan bowled.

Malan was eventually dismissed by off-spinner Mahedi Hasan courtesy of a slower ball when attempting a bit hit on the leg side.
