Matthew Mott, former head coach of England Men's and Australia Women's cricket teams, has been appointed as the assistant coach for the Sydney Sixers, signing a three-year contract.

Mott will work alongside head coach Greg Shipperd, replacing Cameron White, who took over as head coach of Melbourne Renegades in June.

Mott boasts an impressive coaching résumé, having led the Australian women’s team to victories in the 2022 ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cups in 2018 and 2020. He also guided England’s men's team to their 2022 T20 World Cup triumph.

Returning to Sydney, where his coaching career began as the head coach of the New South Wales Blues in 2007, Mott expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Sixers.

"I'm delighted to join back up with the Sydney Sixers," Mott said. "Having started my coaching journey in Sydney many years ago, it's a place that evokes both great memories and a comforting sense of familiarity, which I'm looking forward to. The idea of being an assistant to Greg Shipperd, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for, really appealed to me."

Sydney Sixers General Manager, Rachael Haynes, was thrilled to secure Mott’s services.

"We couldn't be more pleased to have 'Motty' committed for the next three years with the club. When the opportunity arises to bring a coach of Motty's calibre into your ranks, it's a no-brainer. We know what a fantastic resource he will be for our playing group."
