Mehidy Hasan's all-round performance earned him the 'Player Of The Series' accolade
Bangladesh clinched a remarkable 2-0 series sweep over Pakistan by securing a six-wicket victory in the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Chasing a target of 185, Bangladesh reached their goal in the 56th over, with Shakib Al Hasan hitting the winning runs to seal the series.
This series win is a landmark moment for Bangladesh, marking their first-ever Test series victory against Pakistan. Prior to this series, Bangladesh had never managed to defeat Pakistan in a Test match.
However, their performance in this series has been nothing short of exceptional. Following a commanding 10-wicket win in the first Test, the Bangla Tigers maintained their momentum in the second Test to secure a resounding victory.
The second Test featured standout performances from Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Bangladesh was in trouble at 26/6 during their first innings, but Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz orchestrated a spectacular recovery. Mehidy scored a crucial 78 off 124 balls, while Litton Das impressed with a splendid 138.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was not only pivotal with the bat but also made significant contributions with the ball. His all-round performance earned him the 'Player Of The Series' accolade.
In a heartfelt gesture, Mehidy dedicated his award to the family of a rickshaw driver who lost his life during recent riots in Bangladesh.
"First of all I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity and this is my first award outside my home, so I am really happy. Well it is a tough job to bat at Number 8 but I enjoyed my batting with Litton Das. Yeah it is a really brilliant achievement for me to pick five wicket haul and I want to do better. I would like to give a lot of credit to my support staff for always backing me and I enjoyed practicing at home." Mehidy stated.
"I would like to dedicate to my Bangladeshi Supporters that I have been have awarded as the Player of the Series. As we know back in Bangladesh, we have had a tough time as a rickshaw person has lost his life so I would like to dedicate this award to his family," he added.
This triumph not only signifies a major milestone for Bangladesh cricket but also ends Pakistan's hopes of advancing to the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
