Bangladesh cricketer Mehidy Hasan Miraz has followed through on his promise to donate his prize money from the recently concluded Test series against Pakistan to the family of a deceased rickshaw driver.

The rickshaw driver tragically lost his life during a police crackdown in Bangladesh, amid a political movement opposing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed.

Miraz, who played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s first-ever Test series victory over Pakistan, was named Player of the Series for his outstanding performance in the 2-0 whitewash.

During the series, Mehidy made headlines not only for his on-field brilliance but also for his heartfelt gesture.

Following Bangladesh’s historic win, Mehidy made the public announcement, dedicating his award to the rickshaw driver's family.

"I would like to dedicate this award to my Bangladeshi supporters. Back in Bangladesh, we have been going through a tough time as a rickshaw driver lost his life, and I would like to dedicate this award to his family," Mehidy said.

It is worth noting that Bangladesh recently announced their 16-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against India, set to begin on September 19. The first Test will be held in Chennai, with the second scheduled for September 27 in Kanpur.
