Atherton underscored the unpredictable nature of the T20 format
Former England cricketer Michael Atherton has shared his insights on the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the T20 format.
Atherton, in his recent interview with a local sports channel, underscored the unpredictable nature of the T20 format.
He highlighted that the shorter format levels the playing field, making it possible for any team to triumph on their day, adding an element of excitement and uncertainty to the tournament.
The thing about the T20 format is that it's a bit more of a lottery than the 50-over game or, indeed, Test cricket. The longer the game, the more chance that the best teams will have a chance to get on top. Whereas, in the 20-over shorter format, anybody can beat anybody on the day," Atherton said.
Atherton also highlighted four teams he believes have strong chances in the tournament.
"England have got as good a chance as anybody. I'd say India is probably the pre-tournament favorites given the strength and depth of cricket in their country, and the advantage they have in terms of resources. I like South Africa; I think they have got a very strong-looking squad. And don't discount the hosts, West Indies, who know the conditions better than everybody. They've got some very powerful hitters and quick bowlers, and that's a pretty good combination," he concluded.
