As Islamabad United marched into the PSL playoffs, one of the constants in their journey was the leadership duo of Shadab Khan and Salman Ali Agha. Interestingly, both are also playing key roles in the national team setup, with Salman recently named white-ball captain and Shadab serving as vice-captain.

Head coach Mike Hesson, who has worked closely with them in the PSL, shared his perspective on their contribution and how that familiarity might help on the international stage.

In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Hesson expressed confidence in his rapport with both players and the broader local talent pool.

"Obviously, I know Salman Ali Agha. I know Shadab — although I haven’t worked with him for a couple of years. But I also have a very good relationship with many players and teams. So yes, I’m looking forward to bringing all of that together," he said.

Hesson also took a moment to highlight Shadab Khan’s rare all-round skill set, praising his influence with both bat and ball.

"He's a very fine all-round cricketer — the kind any franchise team around the world would jump at. He has that skill set a lot of sides are looking for: an attacking bowler through the middle, a power hitter with the bat in those same overs, and an excellent fielder as well," he added.

Having coached both players in high-pressure PSL environments, Hesson brings a deeper understanding of their strengths, temperaments, and leadership qualities. This existing relationship can serve as a major advantage as he takes over Pakistan’s white-ball duties.
