Misbah, Babar taught me many things, says Abdullah Shafique

Pakistan's emerging Test batter Abdullah Shafique has credited former head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and skipper Babar Azam for teaching many things early in his career.

Abdullah was picked by then selector-cum-head coach Misbah despite playing only one first-class game. He made his debut in T20Is but couldn't execute his best, but later in November 2021, he made an instant impact in Test cricket with the fifties in both innings of Test debut.

During the ongoing second Test against England, he chatted with Michael Atherton about his batting and his success thus far while playing red-ball cricket for the national side.

"At that time [after team selection], our coach was Misbah-ul-Haq, and he saw me and used to teach me so many things about cricket and batting especially. After that, our skipper Babar Azam used to watch me a lot and give me so much information about cricket,” Shafique told Michael Atherton during the ongoing second Test against England.

“It's a good thing that I had those types of seniors in my camp, and I learned many things from them as a batsman - how they are patient with cricket, how they play the ball, how they used to practice, and their routines,” he added.

The young batter – only eight matches old so far – has 856 international runs under his name so far. He has an average of 65.84 in the format.
