After the game, Maxwell talked about his performance and the favorable conditions for bowlers
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell displayed a heartwarming gesture after Washington Freedom’s match against Los Angeles Knight Riders in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024. Maxwell, who won the Player of the Match award, decided to give his award to a young fan and even signed an autograph for him.
The clip of Maxwell’s gesture has gone viral on social media. In the video, Maxwell is seen handing over a big box to a delighted young fan after the game. Although Maxwell did not get a chance to bat, he made a significant impact with his bowling.
Maxwell took three wickets, conceding only 15 runs in his spell, helping to restrict the Knight Riders to 129 runs in their first innings. Washington Freedom chased down the target in just 16 overs, losing only two wickets and winning the game by eight wickets.
Washington Freedom shared the video of Maxwell’s generous act on their official X handle, captioning it, “The winner of the hearts award goes to Glenn Maxwell, who graciously gave his POTM award to his fan.”
After the game, Maxwell talked about his performance and the favorable conditions for bowlers. He also expressed his relief at not having to bat.
“We're fortunate with the conditions and Saurabh picking wickets at top. It was nice to get some help from the wicket. There was little bit of spin, little bit of inconsistency. It was a good day and nice to go at the top as well. I'm absolutely loving not having to bat; great to give my body a bit of rest. Smudge (Steve Smith) is doing a great job as a leader and opener, very fortunate to have him,” Maxwell said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
