The Texas Super Kings showcased a dominant performance, defeating MI New York by nine wickets to knock the defending champions out of MLC 2024. The match, held in front of an enthusiastic crowd, saw standout performances from Marcus Stoinis, Faf du Plessis, and Devon Conway.

Batting first, MI New York faced early trouble as Dewald Brevis was dismissed for a duck in the first over by Zia-ul-Haq. Marcus Stoinis then struck, removing Nicholas Pooran who mis-hit a shot to mid-on. Despite a resilient 49-run partnership between domestic talents Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir, MI New York struggled to maintain momentum.

Rashid Khan was promoted up the order and made an immediate impact, hitting Dwayne Bravo for a four and a six in a single over. Despite Rashid’s efforts, including a half-century, MI New York managed only 163/8 in their 20 overs, with Stoinis and Aaron Hardie delivering crucial blows in the death overs.

In response, Texas Super Kings had a nervy start with a mix-up in the very first over, but du Plessis and Conway steadied the ship. Faf du Plessis led the charge, breaking free with a series of boundaries in the sixth over off Trent Boult. Despite several near run-out chances and close calls, du Plessis reached his fifty and kept the scoreboard ticking.

Conway struggled initially but found his rhythm later, while du Plessis continued to attack, particularly targeting Pollard for an expensive over. The partnership finally ended when du Plessis was caught at long-off, but by then, the Super Kings were well on their way to victory.

Aaron Hardie joined Conway and ensured there were no further hiccups, finishing the chase in style with nine balls to spare. Conway’s timely boundaries and Hardie’s aggressive hitting sealed the deal for Texas Super Kings, ending MI New York’s title defense in a comprehensive manner.
