Mohammad Amir has stated that Babar Azam’s strength lies in batting at number three
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has stated that Babar Azam’s strength lies in batting at number three, and he believes that the Pakistani skipper should continue to bat in that position.
In an interview, Amir explained that his own strength is in bowling the new ball, and if he is not given that role, his performance will be affected. Similarly, he noted that Babar Azam knows how to take the innings forward from number three. Amir added that while the role of an opener works in T20 cricket, it is different in One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Tests, where the role at number three is vital.
Amir further raised concerns about Haris Rauf's ongoing injury, emphasizing that the pacer has not fully recovered and that playing him in the upcoming Champions Trophy matches could pose a risk. He believes it would be foolish to jeopardize Rauf’s career by rushing him back for just a few matches, especially when he may not be able to give his 100% performance due to the injury.
The former fast bowler pointed out that a side strain injury would take at least six weeks to heal fully, and rushing an injured player back onto the field could affect the team's overall performance.
