Amir also shared that during their conversation, Fakhar mentioned experiencing mild coughing, which worsens his pain
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has provided an update on Fakhar Zaman’s injury following the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand. Fakhar, who was injured in the very first over of New Zealand’s innings, had to leave the field for a medical assessment. Though he attempted to return after some time, he was forced to walk off again, raising concerns about his fitness.
Despite the pain, Fakhar still batted during Pakistan's chase of 321 runs. However, he struggled to find his rhythm, scoring just 24 runs before being dismissed.
After the injury, Imam-ul-Haq, who recently played for Pakistan Shaheens in a warm-up match against South Africa, was confirmed on February 20 as Fakhar’s replacement in the squad.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Mohammad Amir, who shares a close friendship with Fakhar after spending over a month together during the ILT20, reached out to check on his teammate's condition.
Amir asked if the injury was related to Fakhar's knee or back, but Fakhar clarified that it was a side strain. This injury could keep him out of action for up to two months. If Fakhar recovers quickly, he is expected to return later in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Amir also shared that during their conversation, Fakhar mentioned experiencing mild coughing, which worsens his pain and affects his breathing. Amir explained that side strain injuries typically take around six weeks to heal, followed by a rehabilitation phase before the player can return to full fitness.
Pakistan, the defending champions and hosts of the tournament, began their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a 60-run loss to New Zealand. They will face arch-rivals India in a highly anticipated match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 23, before returning home to play Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 27.
