Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has spoken about the possibility of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) once he gets his UK citizenship.

Amir, 32, is set to become a British citizen soon due to his marriage to Narjis Khan, who is a British national.

The left-arm pacer, who was part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2009 and Champions Trophy 2017-winning teams, had previously made it clear that he would not play for England. However, he had not ruled out playing in the IPL.

Speaking on a sports show, Amir shared that he will be eligible to play in the IPL in 2026.

“By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, then why not? I will play in the IPL,” Amir said.

He also expressed his interest in joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) if selected.

During the same show, Pakistan Test batter Ahmed Shehzad supported Amir’s potential move, saying RCB needs an experienced bowler like him.

“RCB need a bowler like Amir to fix their bowling woes. They have a good batting unit, but their bowling has always been a problem. If Amir plays for RCB, they will win the title," Shehzad said.

It is important to note that Pakistan players have not been allowed in the IPL since 2008 due to political tensions between India and Pakistan. However, Azhar Mehmood is the only Pakistani cricketer to have played in the IPL as a UK citizen.
