Rizwan clarified that the decision to host the Indian team is up to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)
Pakistan’s white-ball captain, Mohammad Rizwan, warmly welcomed the possibility of hosting the Indian cricket team if they choose to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to be held in Pakistan. Speaking to media on Wednesday, Rizwan addressed the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the eight-nation tournament.
"KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav are all welcome. All the players who will come, we will welcome them," said Rizwan. He clarified that the decision to host the Indian team is up to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but assured that Pakistan would extend a friendly reception if the Indian team crosses the border for the event.
This comes amidst a period of tension, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressing reluctance to send the Indian team to Pakistan. Recently, during a match in South Africa, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav responded to a fan questioning India’s stance on touring Pakistan by saying, "It’s not in our hands," hinting that the decision is beyond players’ control.
In light of these developments, the PCB has reportedly reached out to the International Cricket Council (ICC), asking for clarification on the BCCI’s decision. PCB officials have requested a copy of the BCCI's communication detailing their reasons, so they can better understand the situation.
The Champions Trophy 2025 remains in question as the ICC reviews responses from both boards, aiming to find a resolution that could allow all teams, including India, to participate.
