PCB is interested to use the services of former cricketer in a bid to improve the skills of young pacers
Former cricketer Mohammad Zahid is set to become the bowling coach at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Lahore.
According to sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is interested to use the services of Zahid in a bid to improve the skills of young pacers.
The 44-year-old, who now lives in England, expressed his interest in the job after the PCB advertised for the aforementioned position. After going through the interview process, all the initial terms and conditions have been finalised between the former pacer and Director HPC, Nadeem Khan.
After finalising the salary and other benefits, Zahid’s appointment will be formally announced following the approval of PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani.

Zahid was an extremely promising pacer, but injuries curtailed his career and he was gradually pushed into oblivion. He represented Pakistan in only five Tests and 11 One-day Internationals (ODIs).
Meanwhile, former batting great Mohammad Yousuf and all-rounder Abdul Razzaq are also likely to take up coaching roles at the HPC. Former wicketkeeper, Atiquz Zaman is also set to be named the wicketkeeping coach at the Centre.
Shoaib Akhtar’s name was also doing the rounds in media but the speedster is not interested in taking up any coaching position.
Other ex-cricketers, who are interested in coaching, are expected to be given roles in the regional first-class teams.
