Ace fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, is likely to make a much-anticipated return to the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled for mid-September.

According to ESPNCricinfo, the veteran pacer, who has been recovering from ankle surgery, is in the final stages of rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Shami, who played a crucial role in India's ODI World Cup campaign last November by taking 24 wickets in seven matches, has been out of action due to an ankle injury that required surgery.

Initially deemed minor, the injury worsened, leading to a prolonged recovery process. However, Shami has been making significant progress and resumed bowling last month under close monitoring by the selectors.

The selectors are now deliberating whether Shami should participate in the Duleep Trophy, starting September 5 in Anantapur, to assess his match fitness.

With India's home season on the horizon, including the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, a decision on Shami's inclusion will depend on his fitness levels as evaluated by the NCA.
