Former Pakistan cricketer Mohsin Khan is the frontrunner for the position of chief selector for the Pakistan Cricket team as reported by the Press Trust of India. The position was vacated by legendary former batsman Inzamamul Haq, after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided against renewing his contract which ended in July.

The report also suggested that former captain Misbahul Haq and legendary former fast-bowler Waqar Younis were the favourites for the positions of head coach and bowling coach respectively.

According to details, a source in the PCB revealed that the five-member panel, which was interviewing the candidates, is close to making its final decision.

"They will now have deliberations on finalising their recommendations and it appears as if Misbah is a favourite to be named head coach with Waqar as the bowling coach," the source said.

The source suggested that Mohsin Khan is expected to be given major responsibilities in the new cricket setup.

"Mohsin who has remained a chief selector and interim head coach in the past was invited by the board to give an interview to the panel which indicates he will be given some major responsibility next week," the source said. "The fact that Mohsin was called all the way to Lahore and the fact that he stepped down from the cricket committee after an understanding with the board means he will get some responsibility."

The source further clarified that the PCB had come to an agreement with Misbah after speculations hinted at an impasse between the two parties with regards to the terms and salary of the position.

"I don't think Misbah would have applied if he had not reached an understanding over his terms and conditions for the job with the board," the source concluded.
