Former South African pacer Morne Morkel has begun his role as the Indian cricket team's new bowling coach. Morkel, who started his first session with the team just six days before India's Test series against Bangladesh, shared his excitement about the new role and his love for Indian cuisine.

Morkel, who was appointed as the Indian team's bowling coach on August 14, 2024, previously worked with Pakistan but left the role six weeks before his contract ended. He has also collaborated with current Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir at the Lucknow Super Giants.

In a recent video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Morkel talked about his favorite Indian dishes.

"I like a bit of poori. For breakfast, I obviously love dosas and murgh malai chicken. It is also important as a coach to show that you eat healthy, and the rest of the players will follow," Morkel said.

Reflecting on his appointment, Morkel shared a personal moment from when he first learned of his new role.

"I sat for five minutes in the room reflecting on it. I first spoke to my dad but didn't go to my wife. Normally, they say go to your wife, but I went to speak to dad. I have been a cricket fan for years, and knowing what's going to come was quite a special moment. I enjoyed it for about 5-7 minutes by myself and then shared it with my family," he further added.

The Indian team will face Bangladesh in the first of their two-Test series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, with Morkel looking to make an impact with his new squad.
