Despite not meeting frequently, Dhoni emphasized the mutual respect and camaraderie between them
Legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni recently shared details about his relationship with batting star Virat Kohli, reflecting on their time together both on and off the field.
Dhoni, who led India to two World Cup victories, and Kohli, who rose to prominence under Dhoni’s captaincy, have had a successful partnership that has spanned over a decade. Despite not meeting frequently, Dhoni emphasized the mutual respect and camaraderie between them.
"We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. It is not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time. We will talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship," Dhoni said.
Recalling their time on the field, Dhoni fondly remembered their middle-order partnerships, highlighting the enjoyment he had batting alongside Kohli.
"And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun," he further added.
Kohli recently achieved another milestone by playing a key role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, scoring a match-winning 76 in the final against South Africa. This win added to Kohli's impressive record, making him only the second cricketer after Dhoni to win all three ICC white-ball trophies.
Dhoni, who underwent successful knee surgery, made his last appearance in the IPL 2024 season. He scored 161 runs in 11 innings at an average of 53.66, with a striking rate of 220.54, including 14 fours and 13 sixes. His best score was an unbeaten 37.
