Murder-accused Shakib Al Hasan set to return to Bangladesh ahead of Test series against South Africa

Former Bangladesh cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan, currently embroiled in a murder case, is set to return to his homeland to participate in what is expected to be the final Test match of his illustrious career against South Africa. According to reports from Bangladeshi media, Shakib is anticipated to arrive in Bangladesh on Thursday.

Upon his arrival, the veteran cricketer will head directly to the team hotel and commence training at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium starting Friday. This marks his first return to Bangladesh since July, following his involvement in the ongoing legal matter tied to a murder case that emerged during a student movement in August.

Despite his legal challenges, Shakib managed to play in the Test series against Pakistan and India, raising questions about his participation in the upcoming home series against South Africa. His return to the national team came after he publicly apologized for his previous silence on the student movement issue, which had drawn significant attention. Following his statement, he reportedly received the go-ahead from senior government officials to resume his cricketing duties.
