Former Pakistan cricketer, Mushtaq Ahmed, has predicted that Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam, may opt to temporarily leave the field during the upcoming World Cup matches if the team finds itself in a tight spot.

The former spinner spoke about his time with the England team, where they advised Cook to step off the field and engage with the management during challenging phases of a game.

“When I was working with the England team, we told Alastair Cook that whenever he is in a tight spot he should come off the field and talk to the management about how he feels and the game plan. The discussion with the coaching staff helped change the course of matches on many occasions, both in Test and ODI cricket, when Cook again went back on the field,” Mushtaq said on a local TV channel.

Expressing his opinion on Babar's potential approach, the 53-year-old stated that he believes Babar may follow a similar strategy during difficult situations in upcoming matches.

According to him, taking a break and engaging in discussions with the coaching staff can provide the necessary clarity and perspective.

“In my opinion, Babar will go off the field whenever Pakistan will be in a difficult position in the coming matches as well. Babar will take a break and speak to the coaching staff since sending messages from the dressing room undermines a captain. The captain coming off the field is a better thing to do,” he concluded.
