Naseem Shah reflects on closely contested match against New Zealand

Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah has reflected on a recent match in which he attempted to chase a target and bring his team to victory. 

Despite being confident in his abilities, Shah ultimately did not have enough time to achieve his goal. However, he was happy with the outcome of the match, which ended in a draw.

"I was aiming to chase the target. I was confident that I could do that but I didn’t get enough time. I am happy that we managed to draw the test as well," he said.

Shah noted that Test cricket is different from other forms of the sport, as the results of five days of hard work can often come down to the final hour of the match. 

He also mentioned that he was under pressure during the game, particularly after the dismissal of teammate Sarfaraz Ahmed, but was able to draw on past experiences in similar situations. 

“Pressure was naturally there, especially when Sarfaraz got out, but I've played in such situations before as well, where I had to survive or save the match for the team; I was confident,” he maintained.

Despite the challenges, Shah remained positive and aimed to chase the target, even attempting to hit a few shots and telling the opposing captain that he planned to do so.

“When they had brought fielders close to me, I saw the scoreboard and thought 25 runs are getable. Then, I attempted to do that. I managed to hit a couple of shots then told their captain that I am going to chase if he continues to keep the same fielding,” Naseem recalled.

"When Abrar Ahmed was coming out to bat, I told Tim Southee it was harsh to make him bat with glasses on this late in the evening," said Naseem Shah.
