The current board’s term is due to end in October 2025
Officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have recently indicated that Nazmul Hassan, the board’s president, is preparing to step down from his position.
Hassan, now in his fourth term, is reportedly seeking to cooperate with government efforts to implement reforms. Since the onset of political unrest in Bangladesh, Hassan has been staying in London with his wife.
Since August 5, several other board directors, who have backing from former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, have also gone into hiding. On August 14, a few directors who remained in Dhaka held a meeting to decide their next steps.
Meanwhile, many former BCB officials and cricket organizers gathered at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, calling for the resignation of Hassan and his team.
"One of our directors is in touch with him and, according to him, Papon bhai is ready to cooperate (with the government) and is also prepared to quit from the President's post to bring reform in the board,” a BCB director said.
The same report mentions that Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud recently met with BCB officials to discuss appointing an interim leader under the ICC’s guidelines.
The current board’s term is due to end in October 2025. However, board members are concerned that resigning now could affect Bangladesh's hosting of the upcoming T20 World Cup in October.
The BCB has also enlisted a legal team to review their guidelines and find ways to manage the board with many members absent. They maintain regular communication with interim government officials to update them on their plans.
