Nepal has unveiled their preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series, set to take place next month against Canada and Oman. The 22-player squad will attend a closed training camp to prepare for this important series.
Most of the players who participated in the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup and the earlier League 2 tri-series this year have been retained. However, there are some notable omissions. Left-arm quick Pratis GC and all-rounder Abinash Bohara, who traveled to the USA and the Caribbean for the T20 World Cup in June, are not included in the squad. Additionally, Pawan Sarraf is out due to injury after contributing to Nepal's League 2 campaign earlier this year.
In their place, all-rounder Basir Ahamad, who has shown impressive form playing for Nepal A, gets a spot in the squad. Other new additions include left-arm pacer Rijan Dhakal, seamer Kamal Singh Airee, and young quick Aakash Chand, all of whom are in contention to play in the tri-series.
Nepal currently sits in sixth place in the League 2 standings, with just one win from four matches played at home against Namibia and the Netherlands earlier this year.
Canada is one of the top teams in League 2, boasting an unbeaten record with four victories earlier this year. Oman is in fifth place, having also played four matches.
The upcoming tri-series is crucial for Nepal as they aim to improve their standings in League 2 and secure a better position for future tournaments.
