England men's white-ball captain Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the upcoming Vitality IT20 series against Australia due to a right calf injury, which also raises concerns about his availability for the Metro Bank ODIs later this month.
With Buttler sidelined, Lancashire's Phil Salt, who has captained the Manchester Originals in The Hundred this season, will take on the leadership role for the T20 side.
To fill the gap left by Buttler, Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton has been included in the T20 squad. The three-match IT20 series will start on 11 September 2024 at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.
Essex batter Jordan Cox has also been added to the ODI squad as cover. The five-match ODI series will begin on 19 September at Trent Bridge.
