The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has emerged as a leading candidate to the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is making a last-ditch effort to prevent the tournament from being relocated.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), working under tight deadlines, is reportedly considering Dubai and Abu Dhabi as alternative venues. However, the BCB has requested additional time to present a viable plan to retain the tournament in Bangladesh.

The ICC is expected to make a final decision during its online board meeting scheduled for August 20.

India was seen as a strong alternative to host the tournament, but the BCCI declined due to weather concerns and other reasons. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah clarified that hosting consecutive World Cups was not feasible, especially with the upcoming women's ODI World Cup next year.

The BCB remains hopeful and is working to meet the ICC's requirements to host the tournament, which is set to begin with warm-up matches on September 27, followed by the main event from October 3 to 20, featuring 10 teams and 23 matches.

Previously, the BCB sought security assurances from the Army Chief, and discussions between both parties are ongoing. However, several key BCB officials, including President Nazmul Hassan, have left the country due to recent violence.

The ICC is looking for a host nation with a time zone similar to Bangladesh's and favorable weather conditions, making the UAE a strong contender. The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) offers top-notch facilities and is reportedly eager to host the event. Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have also expressed interest, but with less than 50 days remaining until the tournament's start, time is critical.

The August 20 ICC meeting is primarily focused on finalizing terms of reference for an inquiry into the recent Men's T20 World Cup co-hosted by the USA and West Indies. However, a decision on the Women's T20 World Cup is likely to be addressed as well.
