New Zealand's opening batter, Martin Guptill, has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 38, bringing an end to an illustrious 14-year career. Guptill played 367 matches across all formats for the Blackcaps, leaving a legacy that includes 23 international centuries.

Renowned for his batting prowess, Guptill retires as New Zealand's highest run-scorer in T20Is, amassing 3,531 runs in 122 matches. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he scored 7,346 runs, making him the third-highest run-scorer for New Zealand in the format, behind Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming.

Guptill’s remarkable career began in 2009 when he made his ODI debut, becoming the first Blackcaps player to score a century in his debut match. In Tests, he accumulated 2,586 runs in 47 matches, including three centuries. His career-best score of 189 came against Bangladesh in 2010.

Reflecting on his journey, Guptill expressed gratitude and pride. “As a young kid, it was always my dream to play for New Zealand, and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country. I will forever cherish the memories made wearing the silver fern alongside a great group of guys," he said.

In his retirement statement, Guptill thanked his teammates, coaches, and support staff, with special mention of Mark O'Donnell, who had been a mentor since his Under-19 days. He also expressed appreciation for his manager, Leanne McGoldrick, for her behind-the-scenes efforts.

Guptill reserved heartfelt words for his family, especially his wife, Laura. “Thank you, Laura, for the sacrifices you’ve made for me and our family. You’ve been my biggest supporter, my rock, and my counsel through all the ups and downs that come with the game. I am eternally grateful," he said.

Guptill’s contributions to New Zealand cricket have cemented his status as one of the country’s greatest players. His ability to dominate all formats of the game and his consistent performances have left an indelible mark on the sport.

As he steps away from the international stage, Martin Guptill leaves behind a legacy of dedication, excellence, and inspiration for future generations of cricketers.
