In the T20 World Cup match played on Monday at Brian Lara Stadium, New Zealand won by seven wickets against Papua New Guinea.

Chasing a low score of 79, New Zealand lost Finn Allen (0) and Rachin Ravindra (6) early to Papua New Guinea bowler Kabua Morea.

Despite the early setbacks, Devon Conway (35) and Kane Williamson (18*) steadied the chase for New Zealand.

Conway was dismissed later, but Daryl Mitchell (19*) joined Williamson to see New Zealand through to victory in just 12.2 overs.

Earlier, Papua New Guinea, who batted first, were restricted to a meager 78 runs.

New Zealand's bowling attack, led by Lockie Ferguson, dominated the Papua New Guinea batsmen.

Ferguson had a record-breaking spell, taking three wickets and bowling four maidens.

Papua New Guinea openers Tony Ura (1) and Assad Vala (6) were dismissed cheaply, leaving them with just 14 runs on the board.

A mini-recovery effort by Sese Bau (17) and Charles Amini (12) was cut short by Ferguson who dismissed Amini.

Following Bau's dismissal (12), Papua New Guinea's batting collapsed, losing wickets quickly and eventually being bowled out for 78 in 19.4 overs.

Norman Vanua (14) offered some late resistance for Papua New Guinea with a quickfire cameo.
