The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to adopt a new policy which will include not explaining their selection decision to the players who have been dropped from the team or the squad.
PCB recently announced the ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia. There were a handful of decisions that surprised a number of people, not all bad, however; Imad Wasim and Sarfaraz Ahmed were completely dropped whereas the 35-year-old Asif Afridi along with impressive PSL performer Muhammad Haris were both called up.
According to sources, all-rounder Imad Wasim has taken this development to heart and remains extremely unsatisfied by the way PCB has decided to treat him. The disappointment is hugely due to the lack of communication from Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim and all-format captain Babar Azam.
Former Karachi Kings captain, Imad was ‘rested’ for the West Indies series despite carrying better performances in the World Cup beforehand. This time around, the player has again been dropped and will not be given any explanation on top of that.
Previously, PCB identified Sarfaraz Ahmed as back-up for Mohammad Rizwan but youngster Muhammad Haris has now been given the limelight. It is worth adding that PCB is also yet to include Azam Khan after abruptly dropping him from the T20 World Cup squad last year.
Every cricketing board across the world has adopted the culture which involves giving complete behind-the-scenes working to the players who have been excluded from the squad; a strategy that PCB also adopted until now.
In addition to this, Shoaib Malik’s career still hangs in balance after the players revealed that he has an “honest and open communication” channel with the captain Babar Azam.
Veteran Malik’s name can be considered for the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year.
