PAK vs AUS: Glenn Maxwell becomes third Australian batter to achieve this record in T20 cricket during Pakistan clash

In a thrilling encounter at the Gabba in Brisbane, Australia cruised to a 29-run victory over Pakistan in the first T20I of the series. Australia, batting first, posted a challenging target of 94 runs in a seven-over game, with Glenn Maxwell leading the charge.

Maxwell's explosive knock of 43 runs off just 19 balls featured five boundaries and three sixes. His powerful hitting, including several switch-hit shots, put the Pakistani bowlers on the backfoot as he dominated the attack. This remarkable innings not only helped Australia set a strong total but also saw Maxwell etch his name into the history books.

With his innings, Maxwell became the third Australian cricketer to reach the prestigious 10,000 T20 runs mark, joining the ranks of David Warner and Aaron Finch. The right-handed batter has now scored 10,031 runs in T20 cricket, achieved across 448 matches, which also include seven centuries and 54 half-centuries. Maxwell is the 16th player in international cricket to amass 10,000 T20 runs, with Chris Gayle leading the pack with 14,562 runs in 463 matches.

In response, Pakistan's chase got off to a disastrous start. Despite hitting two early fours, the visitors crumbled under pressure and were reduced to 16/5. Mohammad Rizwan, captaining Pakistan for the first time in a T20I, was dismissed for a duck, and Babar Azam managed just 3 runs off 2 balls. The collapse left Pakistan in a hopeless position, and they could only muster 64 runs in their seven overs.

Australia’s bowling attack, led by impressive spells from their pacers, was too much for Pakistan's top order. In the end, the hosts secured a comprehensive 29-run win, giving them a 1-0 lead in the series.
