Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq has come forward in support of his teammate and close friend, Babar Azam, after a video showing fans mocking the star batter went viral on social media.

The incident occurred during the second T20I against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where Pakistan suffered a whitewash in the series.

While fielding near the boundary, Babar was subjected to taunts from a group of spectators, who shouted remarks like, "Oi, oi, have some shame! You don't even deserve a spot in the T20 team. Go back to Lahore!"

The 30-year-old, maintaining his composure, looked towards the crowd but chose not to engage.

In response to the viral clip, Imam-ul-Haq took to Instagram to express his frustration with the nation's treatment of one of its star players.

Sharing the video, Imam wrote, "We have failed as a nation when mocking replaces support. You are still a champion, Bobs."

The criticism comes amidst Babar's recent struggles in the T20 series against Australia, where he failed to make a significant impact with the bat. Pakistan managed to break a 22-year drought by clinching the preceding ODI series against the Kangaroos, but their joy was short-lived as they suffered a humiliating 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series.

Following the conclusion of the Australia series, Pakistan is set to tour Zimbabwe for three ODIs and three T20Is in Bulawayo.
