Had Rizwan caught Zampa, he could've set a world record for most catches in a match
Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan has etched his name into the record books after equaling the record for the most catches in a single One Day International (ODI) match during the second ODI against Australia on Friday.
Rizwan showcased his exceptional skills behind the stumps by taking six catches in the match, a feat that matches the likes of cricket legends such as Adam Gilchrist, Mark Boucher, Alec Stewart, Matt Prior, Jos Buttler, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Quinton de Kock, and Matthew Cross, who have also taken six catches in an ODI.
Had Rizwan not dropped a chance off Adam Zampa’s bat, he could have set a new world record for the most catches in a single match. Nevertheless, his performance was still a remarkable highlight for Pakistan in the match.
The second ODI saw Pakistan in a commanding position after opting to bowl first. The Australian batting lineup was dismantled by Pakistan's bowlers, with right-arm pacer Haris Rauf leading the charge. Rauf claimed his second five-wicket haul in the ODI format, helping reduce Australia to a mere 163 runs in 35 overs.
The first ODI, however, was a different story. Despite a valiant effort, Pakistan was defeated by Australia by two wickets, as the Men in Green were unable to defend a modest total of 204 runs. Australia chased down the target in a thrilling encounter, losing eight wickets by the 34th over before ultimately securing victory.
