Mohammad Hasnain filled in for Naseem to complete the over
Pakistan's fast bowler Naseem Shah experienced a setback during the first ODI against Australia as he was forced to leave his over halfway due to cramps. The 21-year-old, who has been dealing with pain since the incident, is showing signs of recovery, with sufficient time left to prepare for the second ODI on November 8.
Mohammad Hasnain filled in for Naseem to complete the over, while the young pacer contributed 39 runs conceded and one wicket to the bowling attack.
Despite his discomfort, Naseem made a notable impact with the bat, scoring 40 runs off 39 balls, including a boundary and four powerful sixes, showcasing his versatility on the field. However, Pakistan’s efforts fell short as Australia secured a hard-fought two-wicket victory, giving them a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Australia, chasing a modest target, struggled initially as regular wickets fell, but Pat Cummins’ composed innings ultimately steadied the team, guiding them to 204 for 8 in just 34 overs. Pakistan's bowlers demonstrated their skill, with Haris Rauf taking three wickets, Shaheen Afridi two, and both Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain contributing with one wicket each.
However, a high count of extras cost Pakistan in this low-scoring contest. The pace-heavy strategy, led by skipper Mohammad Rizwan, backfired as the bowlers conceded 21 extras, including 17 wides and four leg byes.
With the second ODI scheduled in Adelaide on November 8, Pakistan will be traveling from Melbourne tomorrow (Tuesday) with hopes of leveling the series.
