Pacer Hasan Mahmud has etched his name into Bangladesh's cricketing history by becoming the first Bangladeshi fast bowler to claim a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in Test cricket.
This remarkable achievement came on the fourth day of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Monday.
The 24-year-old pacer, who had previously appeared in only two Tests, delivered a standout performance with figures of 5-43, his maiden five-wicket haul in the format. His exceptional bowling was instrumental in dismissing Pakistan for 172 in their second innings, setting Bangladesh a target of 185 runs to secure a series whitewash.
Starting the day with two wickets already in his tally, Hasan removed Mohammad Rizwan (43), breaking a crucial partnership of 55 runs for the seventh wicket with Salman Agha. The dismissal provided a much-needed breakthrough for Bangladesh.
The right-arm pacer then struck again with his next delivery, dismissing Mohammad Ali for a duck, and concluded Pakistan's innings by removing Mir Hamza for four.
Hasan's achievement marks a significant milestone as Bangladeshi bowlers had previously only managed five-wicket hauls against Pakistan through their spinners. Taijul Islam and Mohammad Rafique have each accomplished this feat twice, while Shakib Al Hasan and Mehedi Hasan Miraz have achieved it once each.
Notably, Hasan's bowling figures of 5-43 is now the best by a Bangladeshi pacer in any format against Pakistan. Prior to Hasan's performance, the only other instance of a Bangladeshi seamer achieving a five-wicket haul against Pakistan was Mustafizur Rahman's 5-75 during the 2019 ICC World Cup at Lord's.
