Gillespie acknowledged Masood’s leadership amidst the team’s struggles and emphasized the need for improvement.
Pakistan red-ball coach, Jason Gillespie has come forward to offer his support to Pakistan’s captain, Shan Masood, following team's disappointing 2-0 Test series loss to Bangladesh.
Speaking after the match, Gillespie acknowledged Masood’s leadership amidst the team’s struggles and emphasized the need for improvement.
“Shan I feel has led the side very well. We just haven’t played well as a team and that’s the reality," Gillespie said.
The series saw Pakistan's home Test woes continue, with Bangladesh completing a historic whitewash. Pakistan’s recent performances have highlighted ongoing issues, including inconsistent team play and a lack of cohesion.
Gillespie addressed these concerns directly.
"We need to sharpen up on certain areas, and we will sharpen up. I really want to back and believe in these players, they are good enough and have shown glimpses of how good we are. We just need to do it more often and consistently," he further added.
It is worth noting that on the final day, Bangladesh chased down a target of 185 with ease. Zakir Hasan set a strong foundation with 40 runs off 39 balls before being dismissed. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque contributed 38 and 34 runs, respectively. Veterans Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) and Shakib Al Hasan (21*) secured the victory, guiding their team to complete the chase.
