Shami’s struggles continued as he appeared to pick up an ankle injury in his third over, requiring medical attention
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami had a tough start in the high-stakes ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Shami, who opened the bowling for India, delivered an 11-ball over, the joint most by any Indian bowler in ODIs. His struggles with accuracy led to five wides, making it a difficult start for the experienced pacer.
With this, he joined Irfan Pathan and Zaheer Khan on the unwanted list of Indian bowlers who have bowled the most balls in a single over in an ODI.
Most balls bowled in an over for India in an ODI (including wides and no-balls):
- Mohammed Shami - 11 vs PAK, Dubai 2025
- Irfan Pathan - 11 vs WI, Kingston 2006
- Zaheer Khan - 11 vs AUS, Wankhede 2003
Interestingly, all three instances happened in the first over of the innings.
Shami’s struggles continued as he appeared to pick up an ankle injury in his third over, requiring medical attention. He managed to complete the over, conceding just three runs, but could not continue bowling and was replaced by Hardik Pandya.
Pandya made an immediate impact, dismissing Pakistan captain Babar Azam for 23. In the very next over, Imam-ul-Haq was run out following a sharp direct hit from Axar Patel, putting Pakistan under pressure.
