The two-match Test series is a crucial opportunity for Pakistan to improve their standing in the World Test Championship
Pakistan’s cricket team announced its playing XI for the first Test against South Africa, set to take place at SuperSport Park from December 26 to 30. The match marks the return of star batter Babar Azam and experienced pacer Mohammad Abbas to the squad.
Babar Azam, who missed the last two Tests of the England series in October, reclaims his spot after struggling for form in recent matches. He replaces opener Abdullah Shafique, who endured a tough ODI series against South Africa with three consecutive ducks.
Shan Masood will continue as Test captain and is set to open the innings alongside in-form Saim Ayub. The middle order includes Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, and Salman Ali Agha, with all-rounder Aamir Jamal at number eight.
Mohammad Abbas, who last played for Pakistan in August 2021, returns to the team following a strong domestic season. Pakistan will field an all-pace attack, featuring Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad, Aamir Jamal, and Abbas.
