Pakistan's dominant performance with the ball not only put them in a strong position for this match but also made history
In a thrilling encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, Pakistan's bowlers put on a spectacular show, bowling India out for just 119 runs in their second match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday.
This was a significant achievement for Pakistan as it marked the first time in T20I history that they managed to take all 10 wickets against India. The Indian batting lineup struggled to find momentum against a relentless Pakistani pace attack. This is also India's lowest T20I score against Pakistan, surpassing their previous lowest score of 133 for 9, set in 2012.
The match began with Pakistan winning the toss and opting to bowl. Their decision proved fruitful almost immediately. Naseem Shah, one of Pakistan’s standout bowlers, set the tone early by dismissing Indian star Virat Kohli for just four runs in the first over. The pressure on India escalated as Shaheen Afridi sent Indian captain Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion in the very next over.
India, reeling from the early blows, sent Axar Patel in at number four in an attempt to stabilize the innings. However, this strategy faltered as Naseem Shah struck again in the eighth over, removing Patel before he could make a significant impact.
The Indian side showed some promise with Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav at the crease, but their partnership was short-lived. Haris Rauf's delivery to Yadav broke the budding partnership and triggered a rapid collapse. After Yadav’s dismissal, the wickets fell swiftly.
In the 15th over, Mohammad Amir dealt a double blow by removing both Pant, who had scored a fighting 42 off 31 balls, and Ravindra Jadeja in consecutive deliveries. Haris Rauf then mopped up the tail, ensuring that India was bowled out for a mere 119 runs in 19 overs.
Pakistan’s bowlers were the heroes of the day. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf each took three wickets, consistently troubling the Indian batsmen with their pace and accuracy. Mohammad Amir also contributed significantly, taking two crucial wickets, while Shaheen Afridi chipped in with one.
Pakistan's dominant performance with the ball not only put them in a strong position for this match but also made history. They became the first team to bowl India out while batting first in a men's T20 World Cup match.
It is worth noting that Pakistan is coming on the back of a disappointing loss to the USA in their opening match. The Green Shirts will look to carry this momentum forward as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures against Canada and Ireland.
