Match referee Andy Pycroft from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel handed the penalty after Mohammad Rizwan’s team was found to be one over short of the required target
Pakistan have been fined 5% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in their Champions Trophy 2025 opener against New Zealand on Wednesday.
Match referee Andy Pycroft from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel handed the penalty after Mohammad Rizwan’s team was found to be one over short of the required target, even after time allowances were considered.
According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined 5% of their match fee for each over their team fails to complete within the given time.
Pakistan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, accepted the punishment and pleaded guilty, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charge was laid by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Sharfuddoula, along with third umpire Joel Wilson and fourth umpire Alex Wharf.
Pakistan will now have to be more careful with their over-rate in the upcoming matches to avoid further penalties in the tournament.
