A tri-nation T20I series involving Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is likely to take place later this year, sources revealed on Wednesday.

According to sources, initial talks between the cricket boards of the three countries are underway to finalise the proposed series. The idea is to convert the scheduled bilateral series between Pakistan and Afghanistan into a tri-series by adding UAE to the mix.

Afghanistan are already scheduled to tour Pakistan in August for a three-match T20I series. Now, discussions are ongoing to turn it into a tri-nation event.

Meanwhile, the fate of the Asia Cup—scheduled to be held in India in September—is still undecided. If the tournament is eventually moved to the UAE due to political or logistical reasons, the tri-nation series may also be played in the UAE.

Further developments regarding the possible tri-series are expected in the coming week.
