India have lost crucial points after they faced their second defeat in the series against England. As a result of that coupled with the loss of points for India due to a slow over-rate, Pakistan have leapfrogged ahead of their arch-rivals in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
On the other hand, England continued their impressive run in red-ball cricket as they chased down the 378-run target in the final Test match.
The run-chase was solely down to the efforts of former England Test captain Joe Root and in-form Jonny Bairstow, who both scored centuries in quick succession. It is worth adding that Jonny Bairstow had also scored a century in the first innings, which earned him the player of the match award.
Australia remains on the top whereas South Africa sits in the second spot and Pakistan are in the third position.
Here are the updated WTC points table (as of July 5, 2022):
Pakistan are set to face off against Sri Lanka in an away Test series, which might further boost their chances of getting closer to the second position on the WTC points table.
